In our practice, we see a lot of individuals who are looking to improve the quality of their skin, whether it’s their acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity, which comes with the aging process.

The complications from laser treatments can be worse than the initial fear or problem.

Acne scars are a considerable concern that we see here at DAS. In the past, providers would often use Fraxel with moderate results for fair skin individuals, but what about darker skin types that are Fitzpatrick III, IV, V, and VI? Post Inflammatory hyperpigmentation is always a concern but more so for skin type III, IV, V, VI. So when got the Infini about five years ago, it was a game-changer because this was no longer a concern, and now we have the improved Genius from Lutronic.

The Genius works by combining Microneedling and Radio Frequency. We know micro needing stimulates collagen production by causing small injuries into the dermis, which then promotes certain growth factors to activate. We also know radiofrequency, or RF energy causes thermal heat in the tissue. The needles on the Genius are gold plated except for the very end of the needles where RF energy bounces back and forth between the 49 needles. The heat is deep in the dermis, not on the superficial epidermis eliminating most of the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that often occurs with laser treatments. Combining these two modalities Microneedling and RF thermal heat makes for a very effective treatment for scars and skin laxity with minimal downtime.

Here at Dermatology Associates of Seattle, by combining treatments such as Genius, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) applied topically or injected into scars and submissions to individual deeper scars get us better and better results for our patients.

From a personal view, I do have “pretty bad acne scars” that I have been working on forever with products, medical needling, peels, and lasers that are safe for dark skin individual (I’m probably Fitzpatrick V) but since we got the INFINI and now the GENIUS I can say that it is the only treatment that has significantly improved my acne scars. But that’s not the only treatment I’m currently doing so look for part II of this study at the end of the month.

I was not paid GENIUS (or INFINI) to suggest or advise the use of this device. This is a professional opinion for public consideration. If you would like to learn more about this device and if it's right for you, reach out to our office - I am happy to answer your questions regarding my experience with this device on both patients and myself.
